Garmap 2008 Launches

At last, the latest maps are ready. The beautiful packaging is indicative of the vastly improved content.
The new maps represent a significant advance over the 1.5 maps, and are called, in full: Garmap Africa Series 2008, March Edition – followed by the name of the specific map set. Note that we are moving away from version numbers and will be using the date of issue as the reference.

The map sets are:

Southern Africa Street Maps: now include Zambia and Malawi, in addition to Lesotho, Swaziland,
Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Much extended coverage of towns and villages,
140000+ POIs, 670000 km of routable roads, vastly improved coverage of game reserves and parks tracks.

Southern Africa Topo & Rec: as above but with Topo information.

Southern Africa Street Maps DEM (Digital Elevation Modelling). On compatible units – only the
Colorado right now, but more will come – displays shaded elevation like your old school atlas, so you
can get a more immediate feel for the countryside around you.

South African Waterways: bathymetric data (depths) for three major dams, and shows rivers and
streams. A brand new map set.

Also on the DVD, but not updated, are the Nigeria, East Africa and Mauritius maps, and the Fitness
maps.

 Pricing

Pricing will be the same as the prior versions, with adjustments to upgrades between versions to take into account the step in version level. Below is a full pricing matrix. Note that people who purchased maps or a unit with maps on or after 1 January 2008 will qualify for a free upgrade, but they will need a DVD, which is not free. You can get a DVD from GPS 4 Africa @ R100,00 incl VAT,  or by borrowing a friend’s copy (perfectly legitimate). The web site will automatically recognise serial numbers sold by us after 1 January. People who bought after that date a unit sold by us to the channel before that date, will need to supply proof of purchase to qualify.
