New - Tracks 4 Africa GPS Maps - Traveller’s Africa 9.05

The new Tracks4Africa maps was released today. This version will be called T4A GPS Maps - Traveller’s Africa 9.05.The T4A GPS Maps are now the first and only GPS map that allows you to navigate from Cape to Cairo with all roads in-between now being routable. In past years Tracks4Africa produced three T4A GPS Maps CDs per year but as from 2009 we are only releasing two – the first release will be in mid-May (this will assist travelers for the busy June/July holidays and the shorter break in September) and the second release will be in mid-October (this will assist travelers for the year-end holidays and the Easter holidays the following year). This means that the CDs will have a much longer retail shelf life, with fewer concerns about when new versions come out and less need to swap old stock for the new version as frequently as with past releases.

Exciting news from Garmap!

It’s taken a bit longer than we expected, but we’ll shortly be rolling out our latest set of map updates – Garmap Africa Series 2009 – which will be available from the second half of January 2009.

There’s even better news– anyone who purchases a map now will qualify for a FREE upgrade to the latest version of the equivalent map when we launch the Garmap Africa Series 2009 in the New Year.

And what’s more, the new DVD will support Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS 10.4 or later.

It never ceases to amaze us how far we have come in the six very short years since the first user registered a copy of South African Streetmaps V1 on 11th September 2002, which only contained street-level map data for about fifty of South Africa’s cities and towns.

As it currently stands, we have increased our map coverage to include over 750,000km of routable road data and 100,000 points of interest across South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In Garmap Africa Series 2009, you have a lot to look forward to:

  • Southern Africa Streetmaps 2009, Digital Elevation Model
  • Southern Africa Streetmaps  (Topographical & Recreational) 2009
  • Southern Africa Streetmaps 2009
  • Nigeria Streetmaps (Topographical & Recreation) Version 3

The distribution DVD will also include:

  • South Africa Waterways 2008, Second Edition.
  • East Africa Street Maps Version 1
  • Indian Ocean Islands Streetmaps Version 1: Mauritius

The 750,000km of routable road data in the Southern Africa Streetmaps 2009 will cover over 1,700 cities, towns and villages and 55 nature reserves in nine countries.

To complement the new map set, we’ll be launching a brand new website with a totally revised new look and feel, designed to be more user-friendly and be packed with more features than you can shake a stick at.

You can find a “sample” of what we’re working on here.  Please bear in mind that this is a dummy website and the real deal will be up and running as we launch the new maps.

Some previews of what we’ll be including in the site’s new design include the ability for registered users to get free updates for their GPS’ road safety data (traffic cameras etc.) with just one click of the mouse (“I just vont to hier von kliek”).

There will also be selected maps available for direct download, and you’ll even be able to preview maps before buying them – just to make sure that you’re happy with what you are buying.

But why wouldn’t you be?  Garmap maps are the most up-to-date and detailed maps in Africa.  Now, accessing the maps and updating your maps will be so much easier.

And speaking of access, we’ve streamlined our new website to make sure that it’s also compatible with most major Internet browsers, including Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

We think you’ll agree that these are two very exciting pieces of news and we’re just as eager to get the products out into the market as you, our valued customers, are to start using them.

Yours in effortless navigation,

The Garmap South Africa Team.
